Happy Valentine’s Day.

It’s Valentine’s Day. I hate these hyper-commercialized holidays, but I definitely take advantage of them. I was going to compile a list of my top five intelli-crush wishful-thinking valentines, but I figured the outcome would be anticlimactic at best: Raymond Ibrahim at #2 and Steyn at #1. Steyn’s been at the top of the list for years.

So I’ll just write about the special edition of the SotW.

If reading Steyn isn’t a habit of yours by now, you should actually kick your own ass. After that, take some time to read his Song of the Week column on “My Funny Valentine.” More interesting than the story of the crafting of the song is the story of the man who wrote the lyrics, Lorenz Hart. When I first read this essay in A Song for the Season, I couln’t get past the sad, lonely life of Mr. Hart. Everyone deserves their own love song, and the thought of this man penning the song he’d love someone to sing him just mademe sad.

And this is why, boys and girls, we read Steyn’s extra-political commentary. Interesting and informative, and never what you expect.

Happy Valentine’s Day, kids.

  1. I first wandered onto this site from a Steyn link! I have no idea what a pencil skirt might be, or have any feeling for the angst of searching for the perfect one, but I have very much enjoyed following your postings. Its a quirkey, smarty, rough and tumble, womanly, stylish, robust, no holds barred combination that’s been great fun and a great read. You’re the best! Have a very Happy Valentines Day!!
