I’m out of pocket for three days, and it all goes to hell. First of all, I am genuinely heartbroken about the canceling of The Sarah Connor Chronicles. That series rarely had a bad episode. I loved where it was going. Sometimes Fox makes me so angry, I could spit.
Now on to the “important” stuff. I heard many excerpts from Obama’s speech at the National Archives on my way home from our camping trip, after which I came straight into the house to get the whole picture of just what he said. Just when I think I cannot be taken off guard by the naïveté (or cynicism, I’m not sure which) of this president, I am blindsided yet again by his inability to a) tell the truth; b) refrain from whining about the “mess” he “inherited”; c) understand the gravity and reality of the global jihad. It’d be pathetic if it weren’t so serious. Oddly enough, there is a small uptick in the number of people who harbor favorable feelings about the former vice president Dick Cheney, who gave an interesting speech today just after Obama’s.At least Cheney gives credit for the one or two–and most likely accidental–sound decisions made by Obama.
“When President Obama makes wise decisions, as I believe he has done in some respects on Afghanistan, and in reversing his plan to release incendiary photos, he deserves our support,” Cheney said. “And when he faults or mischaracterizes the national security decisions we made in the Bush years, he deserves an answer.”

Have you seen this Liz Cheney mixing it up with the talking heads of the left and smoothly, competently and soundly arguing for policies that did in fact keep the country safe? I wasn’t even aware of her. It’s a real pleasure to see, and though I sound kind of patronizing, I’m quite proud of her. That takes guts to go out there like that. She is often the single voice of reason among two or three half-clued histrionic “commentators”, and she holds her own while appearing quite confident and comfortable.
Now cometh the inevitable left wing bazooka blast of personal attack and character assassination, issued forth from the Perez Hilton’s of the main stream media.
Whatever comes of it, let’s all just agree right now to tell them to stick it.
April,
Tt’s good to have you back.
Ya know I tried to maintain order around here while you were gone, to no effect. I told these guys to clean the kitchen, walk the pit bulls more than once a day so they wouldn’t have crapped all over the den, and take the garbage out and put the beer bottles in the recycle bin. And also change the sheets on the bed–and not just from room to room!
You think they’d listen to me? Hell no.
Sorry for the mess.
Anyhooo….
You asked why he’s still campaigning.
Well….
“BOOT PRODUCTION UP 45%!!”
“GM CARS NOW GUARANTEED BY UNCLE SAM!!!”
“ALL PEOPLE’S REVOLUTION MOVING FORWARD FROM THE DEAR LEADER. AND YOU SHALL HAVE A BOUNTIFUL HARVEST!”
“ALL HAIL THE DEAR LEADER, KILLER OF TIGERS WITH BARE HANDS”
END PEOPLE’S TRANSMISSION
The more we speak of freedom and Changey Change without deferring to ourselves rather than the smiling man on the poster, the more we fetter ourselves and in fact do our own welding of each recalcitrant link that forms our slavery to government power. It is keeping things on a soft roil, which in politics is just the same as a rolling boil. To keep certain people in the news as taking action against..well…..industry….capitalism……rapacious greed from moms who have SUVs if you don’t……from Wall Street barons…..from people complaining that it’s unfair to put them on the Napolitano “hit list” of terror suspects for merely liking hunting and fishing and bitching about the 10th Amendment. It is all about the Orwellian/Alinsky angle of keeping BS and fiffle-fluff in the news over and over and over. Moving when you can, retreating when you must or hit iron or just ironheaded people like yours truly, until at some point (for some of us that point long mounted a horse and rode outta Dodge City), we are jaded on official announcements and learn what the hapless Mr. Smith learned, albeit the hard way–with words, not physical torment:
“He gazed up at the enormous face. Forty years it had taken him to learn what kind of smile was hidden beneath the dark moustache. O cruel, needless misunderstanding! O stubborn, self-willed exile from the loving breast! Two gin-scented tears trickled down the sides of his nose. But it was all right, everything was all right, the struggle was finished. He had won the victory over himself.
He loved Big Brother.”

James:
But maybe he’s confused by the fact that he still seems to be so outnumbered, with Dems in Congress voting like Republicans on guns in national parks, Guantanimo, etc.
It must certainly be a little offsetting to have a man-child like Obama, for whom the very word “no” has no real world meaning. But the word “no” would be character forming for such people, and not just for, say, Brittany Spears or Courtney Love, as examples. The world “NO” is rather common in English. For a reason. It’s how life operates and therefore teaches.
All his life, the friends, the mentors, the media, and whatever Leftie Providence R’ Us organization’s he community organized for have made sure the skids were greased for him. With hard-hitting, battle-worn, journalistic knife-in-the-back campaign questions like “How does it feel to be a MARTYR, Senator Obama?”, why on earth should he NOT be taken aback when he meets a wall of concerned comrades from both inside and outside the party at that?
While there is some vague Hugo Chavez-like dictatorial assumptions built-in (so we’re told) to taking over entire industries and setting crushing taxes on carbon (say adios to trillions) based on bogus pinball science and all other manner of fiat decisions, he can’t just get everything he wants in the space of 200+ days. The most joyous honeymoon as to unroll the sheets, or climb out of the hot tub, and put the wine carafe away at some point and get up for morning coffee and shave.
Poor chap. He was told no. One gets the impression his anthropologist mom returned from the dead, disicovered that her own culture has demands on their children also, and tried to make him clean his room. And now he’s got his hands slapped at the very entry point of the cookie jar by even fellow Dems on things like guns (which the Court already ruled on, not that that means a hell of a lot to liberal pols and banning groups, in and of itself), and yes, the Hotel Gitmo–for which the message would have only been some self-righteous, pious, asinine statement about how sending an Islamic looney to a prison in Minnesota rather than the tropical climes of Cuba is more humane.
“Behold, now. Were’ the “good” guys, ya loonies!”
In fact, almost as bad as bowing to Arabian kings, which, pace the Leftie blogs like Kos, IS a little more to ponder in “diplomacy” than Bush’s alleged nefarious relations with the House of Saud. (That was just oil, as we were told for 8 years…and counting…)
Sick. It’s just sick. Get outta here!
I do, don’t I?
